CoolSculpting® and CoolMini®
Addressing pockets of fatty tissue on the face and body can be particularly difficult, and even strict adherence to a nutritious diet and exercise program may not remove all unwanted fat. While liposuction can be used for larger areas or for more comprehensive body contouring, non-surgical treatments are also available to help spot-reduce targeted areas. CoolSculpting and CoolMini are innovative techniques designed to achieve this goal. They can break down fat cells for a trimmer and more toned chin and body. Our extensively trained plastic surgeon, Dr. Neal Goldberg, offers these state-of-the-art noninvasive treatments at our plastic surgery practice.
What Is CoolSculpting®?
CoolSculpting is a revolutionary device that uses cold energy to break down and eliminate fat cells in the treated area. CoolSculpting can be applied to a wide range of common “trouble spots,” including the abdomen, hips, thighs, flanks (love handles), and back (such as the bra line). Once started, the procedure takes between 30 and 60 minutes, and patients can return to normal activity soon after treatment.
How Does CoolSculpting® Work?
CoolSculpting uses a type of cold energy technology called Cryolipolysis™, which freezes the fat cells, causing them to break up and then to be metabolized by the body. The temperature is carefully controlled to affect fat cells alone, typically leaving the surrounding tissue unharmed. Once placed on the treatment area, the CoolSculpting device produces suction to hold the tissue against the applicator, which then emits the cold energy. You will feel intense cold for several minutes, and then the area usually goes numb. Once complete, massage will be performed to warm up the skin and to aid in the results. After the procedure you can return home or to your normal activities, whatever you feel comfortable doing.
CoolMini® for Double Chin Treatment
CoolMini is made by the same company as CoolSculpting, and this special device is designed to reduce pockets of fatty tissue under the chin and in other small areas. It works similarly to the CoolSculpting technique, freezing the targeted area to break down fat cells. Treatment time is also approximately 30-60 minutes, and most patients can return to normal activities right away. Some minor bruising may occur, which can be covered by makeup until it fades. You may also feel sore once sensation returns to the treated spot; however, this effect should quickly subside.
When Will CoolSculpting® Results Be Visible?
CoolSculpting offers gradual, natural-looking results that develop over time as the body disposes of the affected fatty tissue through normal metabolic processes. Therefore, you can usually expect to start to see the effects after a few weeks, with the full outcome visible after a few months. Some patients achieve their desired outcome after one treatment, but many individuals will benefit from two or more sessions. Each procedure can generally reduce fat in the treated area by up to 20 or 25 percent.
How Much Does CoolSculpting® Cost?
The price of CoolSculpting will depend on how many areas you would like to address, how long the treatment needs to be, how many sessions are recommended, and other factors. The total cost of your program will be explained during your initial consultation, so that you can be well-informed about your options. We want to make achieving your goals as simple and affordable as possible, and we work with a number of reputable plastic surgery financing companies that offer eligible applicants appealing terms. We can provide more details during your first appointment, if interested.
