Brow Lift

Time takes its toll on the face as a person ages, often causing drooping in the forehead and brow. The effect of these changes can be an unintentional look of anger, stress, or tiredness even if you may not actually be feeling these emotions. For this reason, many individuals look to brow lift surgery to correct tissue inelasticity in the upper face and achieve a brighter, more youthful, and more refreshed appearance.

If you struggle with obvious aging in the upper face, know you can turn to Dr. Neal Goldberg in the Westchester and NYC-areas for a variety of advanced brow lift techniques. Brow lift surgery can help to lift drooping/sagging brows, correct an asymmetric brow, and/or smooth wrinkles known as “crow’s feet” and frown lines. Our board-certified plastic surgeon performs highly effective traditional brow lift techniques, as well as the minimally invasive endoscopic brow lift. Keep reading to learn more about each approach.

Is A Brow Lift Right For Me?

While a brow lift is most often performed to correct a drooping brow, it may also be used to correct asymmetric brow, glabellar creases (frown lines), excess upper eyelid skin, crow’s feet, horizontal lines and furrows, or a distorted brow shape. Dr. Goldberg may combine this with other surgical procedures such as a facelift, neck lift or eyelid surgery. The procedure is always individualized to the patient for a natural result.

Dr. Goldberg offers two types of brow lift procedures:

  • Traditional brow lifts – corrects the tissues that cause furrowing or drooping and are removed or altered.
  • Endoscopic brow lifts – procedures are less invasive than the traditional brow lift. A pencil-like instrument is used to view the underlying tissues. The benefits of an endoscopic procedure are the use of small incisions and a shorter recovery time.

What Can I Expect From The Procedure?

A traditional brow lift takes 1-2 hours to perform. Dr. Goldberg will first make an incision across the top of the head, behind the hairline. The forehead skin is then lifted and the underlying muscles and tissues are removed or altered to create a smooth appearance. The brows are elevated and secured with sutures under the skin or with titanium screws behind the hairline. Smaller incisions are closed with stitches or clips.

An endoscopic brow lift also takes 1-2 hours to perform and is done with local anesthesia in conjunction with intravenous sedation. Dr. Goldberg will make four to five small incisions behind the hairline. Using the endoscope, the surgeon will see the skin’s underlying structures during the procedure. The forehead skin is then lifted and the underlying muscles are removed or altered to create a smooth appearance. The brows are elevated and secured with sutures under the skin or titanium screws behind the hairline. Dr. Goldberg will then use stitches or clips to close smaller incisions.

What is Recovery From a Brow Lift Like?

Following this procedure, you should allow about one week to return to normal activities. You should be able to shower and shampoo within three days. Some numbness, nausea, discomfort and swelling are possible. Stitches may be removed after one week and fixation screws may be removed in 2-3 weeks. After three weeks, most signs of the surgery will be gone. You should limit rigorous activity and sun exposure following the procedure. The results may last five to ten years.

Like with any surgical procedure, some complications are possible and may include nerve damage, scarring, hair loss along scar edges, loss of sensation, infection and bleeding.

How Long Do Brow Lift Results Last?

Facial aging will continue, but the results of a brow lift are designed to last for a lifetime. While nothing will stop the natural aging process, brow lift surgery can repair drooping tissues in the brow and allow you to age more gracefully. As a result, brow lift patients should always look younger than those of a similar age who did not undergo a brow lift.

If you begin to notice signs of aging again years after your procedure, non-surgical med spa treatments are often enough to further prolong brow lift results. Laser skin resurfacing, chemical peels, and BOTOX® Cosmetic, among other solutions can all help preserve rejuvenation, reduce newly formed wrinkles, and improve the overall tone and texture of the skin. Our team would be happy to suggest personalized maintenance treatments to help you maintain a bright, refreshed appearance.

Will I Have Visible Brow Lift Scars?

The shape and size of your scars after a brow lift will depend on the type of procedure performed. An endoscopic brow lift typically requires smaller incisions than more traditional brow lift techniques, resulting in smaller scars after surgery. Dr. Goldberg will show you exactly what you can expect with regard to scarring once you both go over the details of your procedure. Although some extent of scarring is unavoidable after any surgery, Dr. Goldberg is able to help ensure scars from facial plastic surgery remain well-concealed by hiding incisions within the hairline or in the natural contours of the ears.

How Much Does Brow Lift Surgery Cost?

Similar to other cosmetic procedures, the cost of a brow lift is personalized based on each person’s concerns, goals, and individual treatment plan. You will receive a cost estimate based on your needs once you meet with Dr. Goldberg in a consultation, but in general, brow lift costs range from $8,000 to $13,500, which includes all fees normally associated with plastic surgery. Your cost estimate will also be affected by:

  • The type of brow lift performed
  • The surgical techniques utilized
  • The complexity of the procedure
  • Hospital, anesthesia, and surgeon’s fees
